There are a few interesting groups in UCL 2021-22

Group B or the ‘group of death’ is set to be the most competitive one, as it has some giants in seven-time champions AC Milan, six-time winners Liverpool, reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and capable challengers FC Porto.

Liverpool and AC Milan share some history. Liverpool came from three goals down at half-time to complete a memorable comeback and claim the UCL title in 2004-05 against the Serie A giants. They also went up against each other in the 2006-07 UEFA Champions League final, where AC Milan won their seventh and last Champions League title to date. AC Milan return to the UCL after a seven-year absence.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, knocked Liverpool out of last season’s UCL while FC Porto had claimed a famous victory over Italian giants Juventus last season.

Last season’s beaten finalists Manchester City have been drawn with Paris St. Germain (PSG), who lost in the final in 2019-20, RB Leipzig and Club Brugge in Group A.

PSG, who boast an attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and Manchester City are the clear favourites in their group while Bundesliga’s RB Leipzig, semi-finalist in 2019-20, are capable of some upsets.

In Group E, five-time Champions League champions Barcelona, who let go of Argentine legend Lionel Messi this summer, have been drawn alongside Bayern Munich, Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv.

In Group E, five-time Champions League champions Barcelona, who let go of Argentine legend Lionel Messi this summer, have been drawn alongside Bayern Munich, Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv.

There have been several memorable matches between Barcelona and Bayern, with the 2012-13 two-legged semi-final clash a standout win for Bayern Munich in their victorious campaign that season.

The Bundesliga giants also beat Barcelona 8-2 in the quarter-finals of their triumphant season in 2019-20.

Defending UCL champions Chelsea have a relatively easy Group H alongside Juventus. The Italians are looking to bounce back after a tough couple of seasons. Malmo and Zenit St. Petersburg complete the group line-up.

Manchester United, buoyed by the return of club hero Cristiano Ronaldo, are in Group F with Atalanta, Villarreal – who beat Man United in last season’s UEFA Europa League final – and Young Boys.
