The Official Predictions
India is expected to send its biggest-ever contingent to Tokyo. The statistical entity Gracenote has made a prediction that India will take away a total of 17 medals which is more than half of what the country has won over the last century. It will win eight medals in shooting, four in boxing, three in wrestling, and one each in archery and weightlifting. The total tally is projected to be four gold medals, five silver, and eight bronze.
People are contemplating whether the first 2 medal days of the Olympics will be monumental in the Indian Olympics history. Why do the 24th and 25th of July have so much significance?
India has particularly strong athletes in shooting, weightlifting, and archery, which will provide a great opportunity to score medals at the very start of the Olympics. Saikhom Mirabai is expected to bag a medal in the weightlifting category for India on the very first day.
Also, two of the world’s best pistol shooters will be competing for medals on the 24th of July. Contestants in the archery category are expected to break the dry spell and get India a medal or two.
With a portion of their best competitors moving in action on the first few days of the Games, Indian fans and supporters can hold on to the hope that their superstars can secure multiple medals and give India a headstart against the other competing countries.
