Delhi Capitals Highlights in the IPL 2021
The Delhi Capitals are a cricket team based in Delhi, India. The team will play in the Indian Premier League and will compete in the 2021 edition. Founded in 2008 as the Delhi Daredevils, the team’s home ground is Arun Jaitley Stadium, located in New Delhi. The Delhi Capitals qualified for the finals for the first time in IPL 2020 after twelve years of the start of this tournament, and qualified for the IPL playoffs in 2019 for the first time in seven years. IPL 2021 is set to resume on September 19 in the UAE. Delhi Capitals will play their first match vs SRH on September 22.
Delhi Capitals batsman Shreyas Iyer expressed happiness on joining the team’s camp for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Iyer is leaving no stone unturned during practice. He trained with the Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre for one week before the team arrived in Dubai on August 21. Having missed out on Phase 1, he reached Dubai early ahead of the team to begin his preparations. When asked about the team’s approach for the final phase of the season, Iyer stated that the team will progress incrementally and try to acclimatise to the UAE conditions as quickly as possible.
Last year’s finalist and current table-toppers Delhi Capitals have become one of the most newly liked franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With a perfect blend of youth and experience, they are an outfit to watch out for in the ongoing edition.
While Shreyas Iyer led the side to the finals in the IPL 2020 edition, his deputy – Rishabh Pant has also done a commendable job in the absence of the regular skipper in the first phase of the IPL 2021. Delhi Capitals are sitting at the top of the points table with six wins and two defeats in eight outings.
Delhi Capitals is on top of IPL 2021 points table with six wins in eight matches and all of it came under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. This is the reason, Delhi Capitals do not want to tinker with captaincy for IPL in UAE. According to a report DC will have Rishabh Pant as the skipper for the IPL 2021 Phase 2. This comes despite regular captain Shreyas Iyer being available for the remainder of the season having recovered from a shoulder injury
Last week when InsideSport reached out to Delhi Capitals officials, they were divided over the captaincy issue. But the franchise seems to have found a way. They are determined to keep Rishabh Pant as the captain at least for the remainder of the IPL 2021. The reason behind the decision is that Shreyas Iyer is still making a recovery and hasn’t played any competitive match since March this year having undergone shoulder surgery.
